Hints for Healthy Holiday Eating

Eat a snack at home before going to holiday parties.
Eat regular meals on holidays and party days. Skipping meals can make you overeat.
Take a healthy choice with you.
Vegetable and fruit kabobs are good fillers, and provide fiber and variety.
Boiled shrimp and crab are good choices when topped with lemon or cocktail sauce.
Use a smaller plate.
After you fill up your plate, walk away from the food table.
Spend time talking with your friends – it will help digest your food and pace your rate of eating.
Take smaller portions and watch out for second helpings.
Watch alcohol intake. Dry wines have fewer calories than mixed drinks or beer.
Balance high and low calorie items.
Don’t forget your regular exercise routine on party days and holidays.
